What is differentiate fiction and non-fiction are the settings and actual person's name is involved. Example fiction setting maybe in some fantasy world with the characters have weird name. Sample book is Lord of the rings. While Non-fiction setting can be set in real world, like Laskar Pelangi, and the character use common name. And fiction usually intended to all readers, while non-fiction have age grouping for each title.

    A genres of writing that is fiction and non-fiction have different purpose and objective in their writing. While Fiction tend to entertain the reader, non-fiction usually give information. But does not rule out the possibility that non-fiction can also be entertain. 

    Fiction Genre usually takes place in some fantasy world ruled by some evil lord and is the duty of the main character to defeat the evil lord. Some of the popular books like harry potter use fantasy magic world as their setting and have real life person name as their character name. Fiction  also usually involve magical creature such as dragon and goblin. And the lore of the stories can take long long time ago or in distant future. Fiction can be intended to all age reader, and usually children takes liking to fantasy world. After all the main objective of Fiction Genre are to entertain the readers  and make them imagine the story. And Last fiction genre tend to have endings that the readers like.

    Next is non-fiction. The purpose of non-fiction is to give information and sometimes can be entertain the readers. for example a non-fiction book can be in a shape of a biography, like the biography of the 1st president of Indonesia Soekarno. Or if the objective is to entertain can be in a shape of a novel like Laskar Pelangi, though the story is bit altered, but the setting and characters use real places and real names. the intended readers for non-fiction mainly are for teenagers or above (etc adult or young adult) because the content of the books might not be understood by young readers such as child due to heavy content. After all its kinda impossible for a children to read about biography of a some successful businessman. And there is no exact ending for the non-fiction genre except for a story telling title, most of them usually end with some summary conclusion of the book itself.
